the Practice of Christian Worship, whose
interests are in the history of the practical and pastoral aspects of the church--how the church conducted worship, initiated Christians, and organized ministries--as a way to understand the development of Christian theology. Dr. Phillips chaired the United Methodist General Conference Holy Communion Study for the past three years. That study has produced the first comprehensive treatment of the sacrament of the Lord's Supper for the United Methodist Church: This Holy Mystery: the United Methodist Understanding of Holy Communion.
